The year 9/10 Outdoor Education class have now returned from their overnight
hike up at Cope Hut. The journey was cut short after news of extreme weather
conditions in the area; however the time spent up at Falls Creek was enough
to cover the teamwork and outdoor skills that were practised on the hike.
Students hiked on the high plains for approximately 10km to get to Cope Hut,
where they camped the night. They worked in groups to put up tents, cook
meals using portable stoves and build a camp fire. The next day they packed
up camp and began the long walk to Fitzgerald Hut, stopping at Wallace’s Hut
to take a group photo. On the way to Fitzgerald Hut the second morning
however, the rest of the hike was called off due to heavy winds and rain.
Overall, the trip was a success despite the last minute cancellation.

Burdziejko.
